The Fan – A Gift Carried by the Wind
Before it is a tool for stirring the air, a fan is a painting held in the hand and the gentlest way of offering one's heart. The breeze spreading from the fingertips may be a quiet act of care for someone. I wanted to lay flowers, lines and colors upon that breeze.
Koreans of old said that the gift of summer is a fan, and the gift of winter is a calendar. On the Dano festival, people made fans and sent them to one another, as if to say: let us endure the coming heat together. Wind can be neither held nor seen. Perhaps that is why its gift lingers longer in the heart.
