Refreshing Liberation: Pouring Rain
Rain pours across the whole fan. Thick streaks of blue, indigo, violet and sky blue drive down from top to bottom along the ribs, and the white Hanji paper glints between them. At the top and both sides, dark rain clouds spread in ink, and pale blue droplet shapes splash round here and there. Drawing ink and colors down in single strokes from top to bottom, I let the very folds of the open fan become lines of rain. I have a particular love for rain, above all for rain that comes down hard. So this time I painted nothing else, just rain. No mountains, no houses, no people. Only rain. An old saying tells us that a sudden downpour does not last the whole day. That is why I love it all the more. While it pours, there is nothing to do but be soaked in its sound, without a single thought. Whenever the fan is opened, that downpour comes rushing down once more.
