Meditation: The Blooming Infinite World명상: 피어나는 무한한 세계
Toward the bottom of a deep red ground, a small figure sits in stillness. A soft light spreads around it in a circle, and from its head rise enormous deer antlers that branch out like a tree across the whole picture. Pale green shoots sprout at the tip of each tine, and curves of yellow, blue and green coil and dance around them. The seated figure is small; the antlers and curves are endless. Letting ink and colors soak into lined Hanji paper layer by layer, I painted the moment when an infinite world blooms from a single still point. What those who meditate or walk a spiritual path long for is perhaps the place called nirvana or liberation. Yet what kind of world it is, only the one seated there can know. When the eyes close, something may unfold, or there may be only darkness. As it has been said, whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent, and so I do not try to explain that world. I have only lightly added one moment that brushed past me in meditation. A free spirit that cuts through the borders of the heart and joins the life of the great natural world: that, at least, no one can stop.
